Le Grand Navire d'Exploration est un dirigeable massif équipé de balistes et d'un gong de chasse similaire à celui trouvé sur le drakkar dans MH3 et MH3U. Il a été commandé par le Groupe de Recherche sur les Dragons Anciens and the Mezeporta Caravan group to explore uncharted land to investigate reports and rumors of violent attacks on airships by what was a unknown Elder Dragon now known as Shantien. Hunters fight this elder dragon upon the ship’s topside deck, where they can fully utilize the ship’s defenses to aid in defeating it.
The airship features infinite ballista shots without requiring a hunter to physically hold the ammo in their inventory.
Au cours d'un combat à mort contre le mythique Shantien, le vaisseau a été partiellement détruit et s'est crashé dans une zone volcanique encore inconnue. Par chance, le "camp" installé à bord a été préservé et restera intact suite au crash.
