(Instant) Forward Lunge Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will, if the Hunter is somewhere directly in front of him, instantaneously dash forward and smash the Hunter. It also almost always occurs when the Barioth gets staggered and the player is still in front of him.

Rage Mode
The attack becomes more frequent.
Evasive Maneuver

If blocking is possible/necessary one can do so, otherwise, avoid staying in front of the Barioth for too long or always keep a small distance so that when the attack occurs the hunter can still roll/dive out of the way. Players with evasion+ skills or perfect timing can roll through the attack (assuming he/she is literally in front of the Barioth) by rolling slightly diagonally "through" one of the Barioth's wings.

The best way to stay safe from this attack is really to just avoid being in front of the Barioth at all times. Players who aim for the head should only get in 1 or 2 attacks (depending on the weapon) and then quickly get out of the way because this attack can occur at any given time and is highly likely to catch someone off guard.

Sideway Bite Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will turn his body slightly to the left or right, growl and then throw his head and wing into the opposite direction, sending the Hunter flying if hit. The tail will also deal minor damage if the Hunter gets hit by it.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

If blocking is possible/necessary you can so, if not and you are within range, roll away if possible or, if your weapon is sheathed, dive sideways although that is a little risky seeing as the recovery time for this attack is very short which could lead to any of the following attack still hitting you.

The best way to stay safe from this attack is to keep a small distance from the Barioth (size of the tail) at all times and not to stick to attacking for too long at a time so that if it is necessary you can always run/roll out of the way. Players who at the rear half of the Barioth at the moment this attack is executed can simply follow where the tail goes and, if they already were, continue attacking.

Tail Swing Ailment Inflicted: Iceblight Ice Snowman StatusEffect-Snowman
Normal Mode

The Barioth will raise his tail and then horizontally swing it approximately 180 degrees while remaining stationary, in this case meaning that he will not spin like most Wyverns do. This attack will make the Hunter trip and inflict Iceblight + Snowman if hit. The tail swing will also cause some snow and rocks to fly off the ground, slightly increasing the attack's area of effect and both of his wings can also deal minor damage at the moment he swings his tail forward.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

If guarding is possible/necessary you can do so, otherwise, if you're very close to the Barioth, you can (when in front of him) simply move in the opposite direction the tail is coming from to the other wing of the Barioth or (when at his sides) run under the Barioth and roll although that isn't 100% failproof.

The best and easiest way to avoid being hit by this attack is by keeping a distance at least the distance of the tail itself at all times. It's a recommended distance to keep anyhow as it is ideal for circling around a monster and staying safe while remaining able to attack any given point safely at any given time.

Jumping Wing Slash(es) Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will assume a prowler stance on the spot he's standing and (sometimes) remain stationary for a moment and then diagonally jump forward to the left and/or the right and smash his target with one of his wings, sending the Hunter flying if hit. The Barioth will always take a "break" (basically a taunt) after performing a double or triple Jumping Wing-Slash attack, leaving it open to attacks and granting the player(s) the opportunity to do whatever they like for a good 2–3 seconds.

Rage Mode
The multiple wing slash attacks become more frequent.
Evasive Maneuver

If blocking is possible/necessary you can do so but do know that without guard+ skill this attack will cause some pushback and take a considerable amount of stamina along with it. Players who cannot block will have to either quickly (if that's the case) sheathe their weapon and roll/dive through the attack or attempt to roll through the attack with the weapon unsheathed. The latter is only recommended if you happen to have either an armor with evasion+ skills or just perfect timing. Depending on the distance you should either roll sideways or diagonally through the wing slash.

The best way to stay safe from this attack however is to make sure you're always on the move and do not stick in front of the Barioth for too long. These attacks are all straightforward so if you stick to the sides/rear (behind the wings) then there should rarely be any need for defensive/evasive counter-maneuvers.

Wall Jump Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will turn so that his rear is facing the wall, jump backwards, cling to the wall for a split-second and then throw himself towards the hunter and spin as a result of the motion when he hits the ground, sending the Hunter flying if hit.

This attack is similiar to the Aerial Spinning Divebomb (read below).

On another note, this attack does not have a range limit so even if you're far away the Barioth will still be able to get you.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

If blocking is possible/necessary you can do so although this attack will, if you do not have any guard+ skills, cause some pushback, drain a considerable amount of stamina and deal some minor damage as well.

Players who cannot block should quickly attempt to get to the wall themselves as the Barioth will always jump a certain distance away from the wall when executing this attack. Would the player be unable to do so it is advised to quickly sheathe your weapon and dive through the attack. Rolling is possible but even with evasion+ skills that requires great timing so it is better to just play it safe and dive it.

The best way to avoid this attack however is to keep the Barioth away from the walls at all times. If the Barioth isn't close to one he will never be able to perform this attack.

Iceball Ailment Inflicted: Iceblight Ice Snowman StatusEffect-Snowman
Normal Mode

The Barioth will step backwards, raise his head, then fling it forward and shoot an iceball out of his mouth which creates a small snowy tornado when it hits the ground and not only send the Hunter flying if hit but also inflict the Iceblight + Snowman statuses.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

If blocking is possible/necessary you can do so although this attack will cause some pushback, drain a lot of stamina and still deal a little amount of damage if the player does not have any guard+ skills. Do not roll this attack when not literally close to his face as the twister will still get you, only roll sideways/away if that's the only thing you can do when at a medium distance to avoid the tornado.

The best way to avoid this attack is by always making sure you're not in a direct line in front of the Barioth as this attack is straightforward only. In this rare situation it is best to stick very close to the Barioth when in front of him as you can quickly get out of the line of the attack by simple running/rolling sideways/under him.

Roar Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will stay still and roar, stopping the Hunter in his/her tracks if caught within the Area of Effect of the roar.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

Block if possible/necessary or dive through the roar. It can be rolled with evasive+ skills though.

Having an armor with the Earplugs skill will cancel out the effect of the roar.

Depuis les airs[]

Aerial Dive Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will, while hovering, turn towards the hunter and (somewhat) slowly dive towards the Hunter, sending him/her flying if hit.

It's not really a dive though, more of a sluggish cat-jump towards the ground.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

If it is necessary and you are capable of doing so you can guard against this attack, if not and you're close you can easily evade the attack by running under the Barioth in the opposite direction he's diving to.

Rolling or diving should rarely be necessary as it is a relatively slow attack and it doesn't have that big of a hitbox either. Would running under the Barioth for some reason not be possible then you can attempt to run out of reach by sprinting sideways and (if necessary) roll/dive.

Aerial Spinning Divebomb Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will rise high into the air, growl twice and then quickly dive towards the Hunter and spin as he lands, sending the Hunter flying if hit and dealing a good amount of damage. The Barioth will also perform this attack when the Hunter is already noticed and the Hunter comes into the area the Barioth has moved to before he has landed. This attack is also used by the Barioth to kill prey when fatigued to regain stamina.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

If possible/necessary you can block this attack but do know that this attack will, regardless on whether you have Guard+ skills or not, cause major/minor pushback, drain a lot/moderate amount of stamina and still deal some/minuscule damage.

Players who cannot block will have to either get under the Barioth to avoid getting hit by the attack or dive through the attack. It can be rolled by even with evasion+ skills that requires good timing. It becomes easier however if the player managed to avoid the full body divebomb and only has to roll through the wing while he is spinning but it remains somewhat troublesome to roll through.

Aerial Iceball Ailment Inflicted: Iceblight Ice Snowman StatusEffect-Snowman
Normal Mode

Essentially the same move as the grounded iceball except that this time around the Barioth shoots it when hovering. The Barioth will growl twice while flying backwards and then diagonally shoot the iceball towards the ground. The effect is no different from the grounded version.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver
Same as for the grounded iceball except that this time around you can stick under the Barioth and can run away from it easier as the Barioth increases the distance when performing this attack.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd[]

Hipcheck Ailment Inflicted: None
Normal Mode

The Barioth will jump and alter his position so that one of his sides is facing you and then quickly smash you with the side of his body, sending the Hunter flying if hit. This attack can be performed in both directions so there is no "safe" side to stick to in order to prevent this attack from ever hitting you. It can also be performed multiple times in a row and easily chained with other attacks.

Rage Mode
Nothing worth mentioning.
Evasive Maneuver

Block if possible/necessary, otherwise, if you're close and have your weapon unsheathe the best thing to do is to run to either the head or the tail (whatever is closest for you at that moment) and roll sideways. If you're quick enough then this attac won't hit you, otherwise it will. Players who are at a small distance should diagonally run away from the Barioth and roll/dive if necessary although diving isn't recommended seeing at the recovery time for this attack is very short.

The best way to stay safe from this attack is to keep a small distance at all times stick close in a straight sideway line of either the head or the tail as the hitbox ends there.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne[]

Notes[]

  • Breaking the wings of Barioth will cause him to slip when jumping in a certain direction (depends on which wing is broken).
  • Breaking both wings will cause not only the Barioth to slide after every jump but when performing the Aerial Spinning Divebomb he will also stay open to attacks much longer and cause him to drop a shiny.
  • When low on stamina the Barioth often taunt after performing one of his moves.
  • When low on stamina the Barioth also becomes unable to shoot iceballs.
  • Due to the inclusion of Nargacuga in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, Barioth's jumping wing-slash attack was removed in this instalment.
